Hi, I’m Rob.

I’m a multidisciplinary artist from Wrexham, working across performance, photography and film. My projects blur art and everyday life, often paired with documentaries that share the story behind the work.

Currently longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2025, I’m always open to opportunities to exhibit and collaborate.

pls don’t burst my bubble

non-generated generative art collection

With Owen Jones & Tim Rooney.
Selected for Tŷ Pawb Open 2022-23.

statement

pls don't burst my bubble is a reflection on the nature of digital artwork in the age of the internet. It comprises a series of identical images, digitally manipulated to have unique attributes. It is a unique copy of a copy, in-line with common criticisms of digital art.

In particular, the collection references NFT culture, taking an image of a real person (me) and manipulating it into a pop art style, similar to 'Bored Apes,' 'Crypto Punks' and other NFT 'PFP' collections.

However - unlike the generative art it references, the collection was painstakingly created, image by image, over several months. This was part of an R&D project into blockchain technology, so that I could fully comprehend the intricacies of the technology and processes involved in making generative art.

The photos were shot by Wrexham-based photographer Tim Rooney. Wrexham-based animator Owen Jones then created the colourful layers and attributes to complete the collection.

As part of the planning, I created a detailed spreadsheet, mapping out the colours and patterns mathematically to include all sorts of quirky easter eggs  - such as making all HEX codes divisible by 28.

Each image also has its own unique name, generated by an AI bot that was fed lyrics from my 2080s music, for inspiration. These images now live on the decentralised storage solution Arweave, where they will exist as long as humanity. Apparently Arweave gurantee 200 years, but let's hope it's at least a billion eh?

A giant, physical print copy of the collection was selected for the 2022 Tŷ Pawb Open art exhibition.
